Exactly right, every year the insurance industry has a new or recycled excuse for raising premiums. Every time it becomes this oft repeated mantra first by the industry and then the shill politicians. The degree to which politicians have sold out the public is shocking, you start combining all the different industries that are working against the public and it's no wonder the middle class is dead. With the insurance company how about a little truth! The majority of insurance companies are close to the minimum $5 million in operating reserves. The Office of Insurance has allowed several companies to operate for extended periods below the minimum reserve ...WITHOUT warning policyholders...until the companies went under. Almost every insurance company in Florida is over-leveraged, in that they have skimmed off most of the policy premiums through managing themselves with essentially fake second companies, paying extra-ordinarily jacked up "re-insurance" premiums to themselves and paying themselves bloated administrative expenses/advertising fees and BONUSES. They have managed to skim off a majority of the premiums. The Sarasota Herald Tribune did a special investigation where they found that there is only $100 in premium reserve for every $100,000 in home value, waiting to cover any losses. The rest has been skimmed off. There are many insurance companies currently operating with Florida State and Office of Insurance regulation approval that have sold coverage for 100's of millions worth of property. They have collected many 10's of millions in premiums and through a process of skimming and poor business investments have only managed to retain enough reserves to pay for the complete loss of 10-12 house out of the 10,000's they have insured. This is the problem that the insurance industry and their shills want to keep you distracted from. This over-leveraging, outrageous risk to capital ratio is why insurance companies keep going out of business. To add insult to injury, these same principals then get low interest loans from the State of Florida and start another insurance company. They submit to Citizens and get 10's of millions in "reward" for taking over Citizen's policies. And the cycle starts again...and again. So next time you hear about the hard times, fraud and all the other BS from the insurance company during these non-hurricane years. Understand that the majority of your premium dollars was siphoned away before they ever even started doing business. Make no mistake, this is a criminal enterprise and conspiracy masquerading as a "business model". One of these days the public will pressure a grand jury and States Attorney into indicting/jailing these criminals.
